Team Leader, LED Research

DisplaySearch is seeking an analyst to develop a research practice around light emitting diodes (LEDs), including reports, consulting and conferences. The category will initially include technology and IP assessment of LED devices, tracking of LED production capacity, manufacturing cost assessment, and forecast of units and revenues by region and application.
Overall Responsibilities
The team leader is a director or vice president position (depending on qualifications and experience) and reports to the Senior Vice President, Analyst Services. The role of the team leader is to design the reports, ensure that the proper data is collected and write or review the analytical portion of each report. The Team Leader matrix manages a group of analysts in China, Japan, Taiwan, Korea, Europe and the U.S. The team also conducts consulting assignments and supports DisplaySearch’s conferences in those regions. Consulting assignments vary from manipulating DisplaySearch’s databases to meet the needs of the client to conducting full fledged market planning for new products, competitive analysis and due diligence. Responsibilities for conferences include establishing the overall program, recruiting speakers and presenting on topics of interest in LEDs.
Qualifications
- Must be a recognized professional in the LED field, who has spoken at conferences, written articles and is thoroughly familiar with LED technologies and applications.
- Must have strong relationships with LED device makers and customers, and the drive to establish strong relationships with product producers to expand coverage of the industry.
- Must be able to understand the needs of clients, and to design reports and databases that are marketable to the industry and will have a strong view of the future, being able to differentiate between the capabilities of the incumbent technologies with the advantages of new lighting technologies.
- 5+ years working in the field and have working knowledge of LEDs, key people and product experience.
- Must have demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret data. A working understanding of modern statistical methods is desired and deep understanding of Excel is required.
- Must demonstrate strong written and verbal communications skills.
- Sufficient business experience to manage a team in terms of P&L and will be expected to plan to meet the company’s financial goals.
- Should possess a graduate degree in science or engineering; MBA also desirable.
- Must be self motivated, able to work independently and to manage your own time and have a proactive approach to your work.
- The ability to manage a small global team is mandatory. Successful candidate must be able to effectively communicate, based on experience and/or language skills.
Travel: Typically 25-40 %
