DisplaySearch is seeking an analyst to support a research practice around photovoltaics (PV), including reports, consulting and conferences. The category will initially include equipment, materials, cell manufacturing, module assembly, and installations of silicon-based and thin film PV. Coverage will include technology and IP assessment, tracking of materials, cell, and module production capacity, manufacturing cost assessment, and market forecast by technology, region, and application.

Overall Responsibilities:

The analyst will report to the Vice President of Manufacturing Research. The role of the analyst is to design the reports, ensure that the proper data is collected and write or review the analytical portion of each report. The analyst will work with analysts in China, Japan, Taiwan, Korea, Europe and the U.S. The analyst also conducts consulting assignments and supports DisplaySearch’s conferences in those regions. Consulting assignments vary from manipulating DisplaySearch’s databases to meet the needs of the client to conducting full fledged market planning for new products, competitive analysis and due diligence. Responsibilities for conferences include establishing the overall program, recruiting speakers and presenting.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years working in the field and have working knowledge of PV, key people and material/cell/module experience.
  • Must have strong relationships with materials, cell, and module makers, and the drive to establish strong relationships with supply chain participants.
  • Must be able to understand the needs of clients, and to design reports and databases that are marketable to the industry and will have a strong view of the future, being able to differentiate between the capabilities of the incumbent technologies with the advantages of new approaches, and to forecast manufacturing ramp-up and cost structures.
  • Must have demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret data. A working understanding of modern statistical methods is desired and thorough understanding of Excel is required.
  • Must demonstrate strong written and verbal communications skills.
  • Must be thoroughly familiar with PV technologies and manufacturing methods.
  • Should possess a degree in science or engineering, or be able to demonstrate proficiency in technology.
  • Highly proficient English skills required. Bilingual candidates with Asian language skills preferred.
  • Must be self motivated, able to work independently and to manage your own time and have a proactive approach to your work.
  • The ability to manage a small global team is mandatory. Successful candidate must be able to effectively communicate, based on experience and/or language skills.
  • Location in Japan is preferred, but qualified candidates in all regions will be considered.
  • Being a recognized professional in the PV field, who has spoken at conferences and written articles preferred.

Travel: Typically 25-40 %
